Use of textile waste and cassava stump for briquettes

The use of agro-industrial residues is a solution to a significant problem of humanity which is the disposal of waste. Energy densification is a very efficient way to mitigate this problem because it transforms discarded waste into usable energy. Residues such as textiles and agro-forestry waste have, in their great majority, an interesting calorific power. The aim of this study was to make briquettes using mixtures of textile waste and cassava stump. The quality parameters, in the durability test, showed that all the blends obtained were satisfactory resulting in durability values higher than 97%. Still, in impact resistance, the briquette made of 100% textile obtained the worst result which indicates that it does not have good resistance to falls. At the same time, the other blends were also excellent in this test, especially the blend of 25% textile and 75% stump which obtained the best performance. Thus, it showed that the blends of textile material and cassava stump, are suitable for obtaining energy and, also for making solid fuel through the process of briquetting. Among all the blends, the one that proved to be the best was the blend of 25% textile and 75% stump, because it showed a high heat value (HHV) of 18.24 Mj/kg, being the highest HHV of all mixtures.
